Gemotions

John stretched languidly, the morning sun warming his back. He’d just finished a successful presentation, and a wave of contentment washed over him. He sat in his favorite armchair, sipping his Earl Grey tea, the silence a welcome contrast to the office cacophony. He had a whole weekend stretching out before him with his partner, David.

The phone buzzed on the coffee table. David’s name flashed on the screen. John smiled and answered. The conversation was brief, almost rushed. David said he was running late, stuck in a meeting. John was momentarily disappointed, but then shook the feeling off and sank back into his armchair.

Later, he walked past the home office. He saw the phone, and picked it up. He saw a missed call from an unknown number. He frowned. He was sure David never had any calls from a number he didn't recognise. He quickly set the phone down, telling himself he was being silly.
